All praises to Almighty Allah, the Creator of the Universe. May the blessings of Almighty Allah be upon the best role model, our Master, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and his entire household as well as his companions.

This article, In sha'Allah, explores the significances of this beautiful name and its effects upon the bearer.
Every individual or parent, if not all, have reasons for giving an object or their children a certain name, because names are not mere words but it becomes an established connection between the bearer and the meaning that they represent. Abdul Muttalib gave our Prophet a beautiful name which possesses a great meaning, on account of his dream, and Allah swt, with his supremacy, actualized his dream.
Today, millions of Muslims now designate this name to their children, in aspiration of the blessings this name have, it's beauty, it's excellences as well as an act of Sunnah (following the path of the Holy Prophet). Rasūlullah ﷺ emphasized a lot on the importance of good names and often changes some horrible names to beautiful ones.
A man once came to the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and asked, 'O' Messenger of Allah! What is the right of my son? The Prophet replied 'Give him a good name, and train him well, and choose a job or profession for him'. [Makaarimul Akhlāq by Attibrasy].
As for the significances of the name 'Muhammad', Rasūlullah ﷺ, himself gave a special prominence to this name and explained how immense and glorified it is.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'Name yourselves with my name but do not use my title (like Abu-l-Qāsim)'. [Sahihul Bukhari]
Rasūlullah ﷺ also said in another hadith, 'Whoever gives birth to a male child and named him "Muhammad" because of his love for me, and to derive blessing from my name, he (the father) and his child will be in Jannah'. [Kanzul Ummāl].
"My Lord has mentioned to me that, 'I swear by my sight and greatness that whosoever is named after you shall never be destroyed by the fire of hell' " [Hilyah Abu Nu'aym].
"What will you lose? If in your homes, there is one, two or three Muhammad(s)". [Tabaqat Ibn Sa'ad].
"He who is blessed with three sons and does not make one Muhammad is indeed a Jāhil (an ignorant person)". [At-tibrany, Mu'jamul Al-kabeer].
"When you name the child Muhammad, respect him, make place and accommodate him in a gathering, and do not accuse or curse him". [Hakim Musnal Al-Firdaus].
The Virtues Of Muḥammad
Some of the highlighted qualities and the influences of this name on the bearers are:
- Modesty
- Pleasantness.
- Leadership.
- Respect.
- Generosity.
- Excellency.
- Humility.
- Kindness.
- Truthful.
- Considerate.
And the list goes on.....
May Almighty Allah enrich and fortify us with the blessings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and make us stand firm on his path and hold strongly on to his Sunnah and also include us among his sincere lovers in this life and hereafter.
